The Anti-Partisan action in Srem was conducted by the Serbian Volunteer Corps with the goal of clearing local partisan units and advance in the Buđanovci–Hrtkovci–Jarak line and Sremska Mitrovica.
Action
Due to the unwillingness of NDH forces to fight against the Partisans in Srem area, the Partisans gained free rein over the region. As a result, the SDK was ordered to take action and advance in Buđanovci–Hrtkovci–Jarak line towards Sremska Mitrovica to clear out Partisan units. The Partisans were well dug in and occupied a church steeple, which gave them a complete view of the surrounding countryside. During the advance, the 2nd Battalion came under fire, except for the Weapons Company, which managed to continue its assault and defeat the Partisans. The 2nd Battalion then continued to advance without further resistance, as the Partisans had retreated from the area.
Aftermath
Following the operation in Srem, the Germans organised rail transport for SDK through Croatia, Hungary and Austria. After arriving in Austria, the corps was deployed to the coastal region of Slovenia, which it reached in November. The SDK was placed under the Waffen-SS command and re-designated as the Serbian Volunteer SS Corps.
