Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Polish: Instytut Badań Literackich Polskiej Akademii Nauk; IBL) is a scientific institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences based in the Staszic Palace in Warsaw,[1] established on 24 July 1948.[2][3]

The Institute carries out documentation and editorial projects including “Polska Bibliografia Literacka” (“Polish Literary Bibliography”), “Słownik Polszczyzny XVI wieku” (“Dictionary of the 16th Century Polish Language”), “Słownik Współczesnych Pisarzy i Badaczy Literatury” (“Dictionary of Contemporary Writers and Literary Researchers”), “Biblioteka Pisarzy Staropolskich” (“Library of Old Polish Writers”) and “Biblioteka Pisarzy Polskiego Oświecenia” (“Library of Writers of the Polish Enlightenment”),[4] as well as the editions of the writings of Jan Kochanowski, Gustaw Herling-Grudziński and Eliza Orzeszkowa.[4]

The institute runs a library, which has manuscripts of Cyprian Kamil Norwid, Eliza Orzeszkowa, Maria Konopnicka, Jan Kasprowicz, Witold Gombrowicz and Czesław Miłosz,[5] and an archive.[6]

The Department of Contemporary Literature Documentation of the institute issued an online biographical dictionary, Polscy pisarze i badacze literatury XX i XXI wieku.[7]

Grzegorz Marzec has been serving as institute's director[8] since 1 April 2022.[9][10]
