The Sword: Rebirth of the Red Wolf (Korean: 칼, 고두막한의 검) is an upcoming epic action adventure drama film directed by Kim Han-min starring Park Bo-gum. It revolves around a Goguryeo warrior, played by Park, and his quest to obtain a fabled sword called Godumakhan.

Premise

Set two years after the fall of Goguryeo's Pyongyang Castle, it centers around slave-turned-warrior Chil-seong (Park Bo-gum), also known as Red Wolf, who has lost his memory and gets caught up in a brutal conflict between factions over the sword of Godumakhan, a fabled sword in the kingdom of Goguryeo.

Development

The film was first announced in October 2024 during the "Plus M X SLL Night" event held at the 29th Busan International Film Festival.[6][7][8] It was selected by the Korea Creative Content Agency as the K-Content AI Pioneer Project for its incorporation of AI technology.[9] It is produced by Big Stone Pictures, Blue Fire Studio, Red Ice Entertainment, and funded by Solaire Partners.[10][11]

Casting

In March 2025, Park Bo-gum who had a role in director Kim Han-min's The Admiral: Roaring Currents (2014), was reported to lead Kim’s next film set in Goguryeo.[12][13] Cha Seung-won joined the film two months later in May 2025 but exited the project in January 2026 due to scheduling conflicts.[14] He was replaced by Vietnamese actor Dog Thành.[5] Actor Joo Won and singer-actress Kim Hyeong-seo joined the cast in January 2026 ahead of filming.[15][16]

Filming

Principal photography will begin in March 2026.[17]

Release

The film is expected to premiere in the summer of 2027.[18][17]
