David Wayne, de son vrai nom James Wayne McMeekan, né le à Traverse City, Michigan (États-Unis) et mort d'un cancer le à Santa Monica, Californie (États-Unis), est un acteur américain.

Biographie

Né à Traverse City dans le Michigan, David Wayne est le fils d'Helen Matilda (née Mason) et John David McMeekan. Son premier grand rôle à Broadway est celui d'Og, le leprechaun, dans La Vallée du bonheur, pour lequel on lui remet un Theatre World Award ainsi que le premier Tony Award pour un second rôle dans une comédie musicale. En , David Wayne est l'un des 50 acteurs (sur environ 700 postulants) à rejoindre le tout jeune Actors Studio à New York. Il reçoit un second Tony pour La Petite Maison de thé ainsi qu'une nomination pour Sacré Printemps (en).

En 1978, il incarne le premier Digger Barnes, père de Pamela, mariée à Bobby, l'un des héritiers de son ennemi juré Jock Ewing, dans quatre épisodes de la série Dallas, avant d'être remplacé par son ami Keenan Wynn pour des raisons d'emploi du temps.

Il meurt chez lui à Santa Monica en Californie, des suites d'un cancer du poumon, le .
