La Middle East Professional Boxing (abrégée MEPB) est l’instance dirigeante de la boxe anglaiseprofessionnelle au Moyen-Orient. Créée en 2016, elle a pour rôle de sanctionner et réglementer les combats de championnat organisés notamment aux Émirats arabes unis, en Arabie saoudite, au Koweït et au Qatar[1],[2],[3].
Histoire
La MEPB a été fondée en 2016 à Dubaï. Elle a pour mission de développer et promouvoir la boxe professionnelle dans la région, en garantissant l’intégrité sportive et la sécurité des participants[4]. Son président actuel est José Mohan[5].
Distinctions
Événements notables
La MEPB a été la première organisation régionale à obtenir la reconnaissance des grandes fédérations internationales de boxe professionnelle (WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO). Elle a sanctionné plusieurs grands combats organisés au Moyen-Orient :
- Oleksandr Usyk – Anthony Joshua II (« Rage on the Red Sea »), , Jeddah Superdome, Djeddah (Arabie saoudite)[7].
- Jamel Herring – Carl Frampton, 2021, Caesars Palace, Dubaï.
- Dmitri Bivol – Gilberto Ramirez, championnat WBA mi-lourds, 2022, Etihad Arena, Abou Dabi.
- Tyson Fury – Oleksandr Usyk, championnat du monde unifié poids lourds, 2023, Kingdom Arena, Riyad[8].
