Amber Valley ist ein Wahlkreis (englischconstituency) in der Grafschaft Derbyshire im Osten Englands, der einen Abgeordneten ins britische Unterhaus (House of Commons) entsendet. Er besteht seit 1983 und umfasst die östliche Hälfte des Borough of Amber Valley. Bedeutende Orte im Wahlkreis sind Alfreton, Heanor, Langley Mill und Ripley.
Geschichte
Die Boundary Commission for England schuf den Wahlkreis im Hinblick auf die Unterhauswahl 1983. Er entstand aus Teilen der aufgelösten Wahlkreise Belper, South East Derbyshire und Ilkeston. Grenzanpassungen wurden 1997, 2010 und 2024 im Rahmen periodischer Überprüfungen vorgenommen.
Der Wahlkreis umfasst(e) folgende Gebiete:
1983–1997: im District of Amber Valley die Wards Aldercar, Alfreton East, Alfreton West, Codnor, Denby & Horsley Woodhouse, Heage & Ambergate, Heanor & Loscoe, Heanor East, Heanor West, Holbrook & Horsley, Kilburn, Riddings, Ripley, Ripley & Marehay, Shipley Park, Somercotes, Swanwick und Wingfield sowie im District of Erewash die Wards Breadsall & Morley, Little Eaton und Stanley[2]
1997–2010: im Borough of Amber Valley die Wards Aldercar, Alfreton East, Alfreton West, Codnor, Crich, Denby & Horsley Woodhouse, Heage & Ambergate, Heanor & Loscoe, Heanor East, Heanor West, Holbrook & Horsley, Kilburn, Riddings, Ripley, Ripley & Marehay, Shipley Park, Somercotes, Swanwick und Wingfield sowie im Borough of Erewash die Wards Breadsall & Morley, Little Eaton und Stanley[3]

seit 2024: im Borough of Amber Valley die Wards Alfreton, Codnor, Langley Mill & Aldercar, Crich & South Wingfield (teilweise), Heage & Ambergate, Heanor East, Heanor West & Loscoe, Ironville & Riddings, Kilburn, Denby, Holbrook & Horsley, Ripley, Ripley & Marehay, Smalley, Shipley & Horsley Woodhouse, Somercotes und Swanwick[5]
Die Städte Alfreton, Heanor und Ripley sind im Wesentlichen von Wählern der Labour Party geprägt, was sich bei den Stadtratswahlen üblicherweise in einer Mehrheit für diese Partei ausdrückte. In den eher ländlich geprägten Gebieten des Wahlbezirks zeigen die Wahlergebnisse auf kommunaler Ebene dagegen eine Mehrheit der Conservative Party. Entsprechend gibt es im Wahlkreis in regelmäßigen Abständen zu Wechseln zwischen Abgeordneten von Labour und den Conservatives. Ab 1983 nahm der Konservative Phillip Oppenheim die Interessen der Wähler im House of Commons wahr. 1997 setzte sich die Labour-Kandidaten Judy Mallaber gegen Oppenheim durch. Sie hatte den Sitz für Amber Valley bis 2010 inne, ehe sie mit nur 536 Stimmen Unterschied dem Konservativen Nigel Mills unterlag. Mills wiederum musste sich 2024 der Labour-Kandidatin Linsey Farnsworth geschlagen geben.
