Die Boundary Commission for England schuf den Wahlkreis im Hinblick auf die Unterhauswahl 1997. Er entstand aus Teilen der aufgelösten Wahlkreise Esher und Chertsey and Walton; Grenzveränderungen erfolgten 2024 im Rahmen periodischer Überprüfungen.
Der Wahlkreis umfasst(e) folgende Gebiete:
1997–2024: im Borough of Elmbridge die Wards Claygate, Cobham & Downside, Cobham Fairmile, Esher, Hersham North, Hersham South, Hinchley Wood, Long Ditton, Molesey East, Molesey North, Molesey South, Oxshott & Stoke D’Abernon, Thames Ditton, Walton Ambleside, Walton Central, Walton North, Walton South und Weston Green[2][3]
seit 2024: im Borough of Elmbridge die Wards Claygate, Esher, Hersham Village, Hinchley Wood & Weston Green, Long Ditton, Molesey East, Molesey West, Oatlands & Burwood Park, Thames Ditton, Walton Central, Walton North und Walton South[4]
Nach seiner Erschaffung repräsentierte durchgehend ein Vertreter der Conservative Party den Wahlkreis, ehe sich 2024 die Liberal Democrats durchsetzten. Von 1997 bis 2010 amtierte Ian Taylor, der bereits den Vorgängerwahlkreis Esher vertreten hatte. Auf ihn folgte Dominic Raab, der als Vize-Premierminister, Lordkanzler und Justizminister im Kabinett von Rishi Sunak amtierte. Taylor empfahl 2019 nicht seinen Parteikollegen Raab zur Wahl, sondern die Liberaldemokratin Monica Harding. Als Grund gab er den europaskeptischen Kurs der Tories unter Premierminister Boris Johnson an.[5] Raab wiederum trat 2024 nicht mehr an und wurde durch Harding abgelöst.
