Belgrave St Ives è una galleria d'arte commerciale specializzata in arte moderna britannica e arte contemporanea con sede a St Ives, in Cornovaglia, nel sud-ovest dell'Inghilterra.[1] Si concentra sulle opere prodotte in Cornovaglia a partire dagli anni '30, quando la città di St Ives divenne un centro artistico modernista di importanza internazionale.[2][3][4][5]

Storia

La galleria originale fu inaugurata nel 1974 in Motcomb Street, Belgravia, Londra. Successivamente si trasferì in diverse sedi londinesi, tra cui Mayfair, St James's e Belsize Park,[6] fino all'apertura di una galleria gemella a St Ives nel 1998. Nel 2010 la galleria di St Ives diventò indipendente e continua ad essere l'unica parte rimasta dell'impresa Belgrave Gallery.[7] Mantiene un programma di mostre di opere di importanti artisti associati al periodo moderno di St Ives,[8] come Wilhelmina Barns-Graham[9] e Terry Frost,[10] oltre a rappresentare quelli che in passato erano stati messi in ombra nella storia convenzionale dell'arte moderna britannica e che recentemente stanno acquisendo maggiore importanza, come Sven Berlin.[11] Sono esposte anche opere di altri artisti moderni britannici e contemporanei.[12][13] Un appuntamento fisso annuale è la Mostra di St Ives, che si tiene solitamente all'inizio dell'estate e si concentra sull'arte modernista[14] prodotta da artisti legati alla città. Nel settembre 2020, dopo 22 anni a St Ives, Belgrave St Ives si è trasferita in una zona rurale a Towednack, a pochi chilometri da St Ives.[15][16][17]
