Encke è un cratere lunare di 28,27 km situato nella parte nord-occidentale della faccia visibile della Luna, sull'orlo occidentale del Mare Insularum, a sud-sudest del cratere Kepler. A est-sudest del Mare è presente il piccolo cratere Kunowsky.
Il bordo è basso e di forma approssimativamente poligonale. Il piccolo cratere Encke N si trova sul bordo occidentale. Il letto è frastagliato e coperto dalla raggiera del vicino cratere Kepler. I materiali espulsi (ejecta) possiedono un alto albedo e rendono Encke un cratere brillante quando il Sole si trova ad altitudini maggiori della superficie lunari.
Il cratere è dedicato al matematico tedesco Johann Franz Encke.
