Dig Your Own Hole è il secondo album del gruppo britannico The Chemical Brothers, pubblicato il 7 aprile 1997 dalla Virgin Records.[1]
Composizione e pubblicazione
Dig Your Own Hole è un album big beat[2] che fonde hip hop e techno,[9] mantenendo le sonorità psichedeliche delle prime uscite, ma rappresentando un ulteriore avvicinamento al genere rock rispetto all'esordio Exit Planet Dust.[10] I Chemical Brothers affermarono che il disco è ispirato al garage rock e a gruppi freakbeat come i Tintern Abbey.[10]
Da Dig Your Own Hole vennero estratti i singoli Block Rockin' Beats, brano dai riff psichedelici e poliritmie e un campionamento di The Well's Gone Dry dei Crusaders;[2] l'altrettanto frenetico Elektrobank; Setting Sun, traccia cantata da Noel Gallagher e che attualizza Tomorrow Never Knows dei Beatles, e la "re-visione" psichedelica di The Private Psychedelic Reel.[9]
Copertina
La copertina dell'album raffigura il volto bianco di una ragazza di profilo su uno sfondo nero. Secondo il sito Ondarock, la cover «diventerà fin da subito il simbolo di una generazione che ha attraversato più di ogni altra le trasformazioni della dance music».[2]
