Keeper of the Seven Keys – Part I è il secondo album in studio del gruppo musicale tedesco Helloween, pubblicato il 23 maggio 1987 dalla Noise Records.

È il primo disco registrato con il cantante Michael Kiske, che sostituì Kai Hansen al microfono, ed è considerato l'album che ha creato il power metal europeo.

Antefatti

Kai Hansen decise di assumere un nuovo frontman poiché aveva difficoltà a cantare e suonare contemporaneamente durante i concerti. Rimase come chitarrista e scrisse la maggior parte dei brani, a causa di un problema che colpì l'altro chitarrista e compositore Michael Weikath, il quale ammise di aver "fumato dell'erba cattiva e dentro c'era il DDT", che lo rese incapace di suonare per via di un tremore alle mani.[1]

Promozione

Future World fu pubblicato come singolo, mentre venne realizzato un video musicale per Halloween in una versione notevolmente ridotta rispetto all'originale. Inizialmente il gruppo voleva pubblicare un doppio album, avendo già scritto un numero elevato di tracce, ma la proposta non piaceva alla casa discografica. Pertanto, il disco è stato diviso in due parti e Keeper of the Seven Keys - Part II pubblicato solo un anno dopo.

Loudwire lo ha classificato al terzo posto nella sua Top 25 Power Metal Albums of All Time e ha commentato che è "un disco instancabile e forse il primo vero album power metal".[9] ThoughtCo lo ha inoltre menzionato nella sua lista Essential Power Metal Albums.[10]
