Kees Vlak

Cornelis Vlak, detto Kees (Amsterdam, 30 settembre 1938 – Schoorl, 5 dicembre 2014), è stato un musicista e compositore olandese.

Cominciò fin da bambino: all'età di otto anni ricevette le prime lezioni di pianoforte e, in seguito, imparò a suonare la tromba insieme al padre^[1], il quale era clarinettista nella fanfara del paese natale. Proseguì gli studi nel Conservatorio della sua città, diplomandosi in pianoforte nel 1959 e successivamente in tromba ed esecuzione orchestrale nel 1961. In seguito, studiò direzione di banda con Kors Monster al Muziek Lyzeum di Amsterdam e teoria musicale alla Berkeley High School di San Francisco.

Durante i suoi studi, suonò con diversi gruppi ed orchestre (soprattutto rivista, musical, operetta ed orchestre sinfoniche). All'età di 25 anni una malattia cronica lo costrinse a interrompere l'attività di esecutore, concedendogli tuttavia più tempo da dedicare alla composizione. Si dedicò in particolare alla scrittura di musica per strumenti a fiato, ottenendo un discreto successo sia in ambito nazionale sia internazionale.

Il suo catalogo comprende oltre 500 composizioni destinate a orchestre e bande giovanili.

Era solito ricorrere a pseudonimi differenti a seconda dello stile di composizione adottato. Tra i nomi d'arte da lui adoperati: "Robert Allmend", "Llano", "Luigi di Ghisallo", "Alfred Bösendorfer" e "Dick Ravenal".^[2]
