Noveltoons è una serie di cortometraggi animati prodotti dalla Famous Studios della Paramount Pictures dal 1943 fino alla chiusura dello studio nel 1967.^[1] La serie ha dato vita a personaggi come Casper, Herman & Katnip, Little Audrey e Baby Huey, che in seguito sono diventati tutti protagonisti della Harvey Comics, la quale ha acquisito i diritti sui personaggi nel 1959. La serie è stata il successore della serie Color Classics prodotta dai Fleischer Studios, studi predecessori della Famous. Diversi Noveltoons presentano personaggi che hanno avuto origine in Color Classics, come Spunky o Raggedy Ann. Questa serie era anche simile alle due serie della Warner Bros., Looney Tunes e Merrie Melodies, in quanto presenta diversi personaggi ricorrenti con un titolo generale.

Nel 1956, la Paramount vendette tutti i Noveltoons realizzati prima dell'ottobre 1950 (fino a Saved by the Bell) al distributore televisivo U.M. & M. TV Corporation. Poco dopo, le attività della U.M. & M. furono acquisite dalla National Telefilm Associates. Negli anni '80, la NTA cambiò nome in Republic Pictures e, dopo un breve periodo di proprietà della Spelling Entertainment nel 1994, fu acquisita dalla società madre della Paramount, la Viacom, che riportò i cartoni animati sotto il controllo della Paramount (dal 2006 la Republic Pictures è stata rinominata Melange Pictures, che a sua volta è stata inserita nella rinata controllata Republic Pictures).

Nel 1959, e poi nuovamente alla fine del 1962, la Paramount vendette i cortometraggi Noveltoons realizzati tra l'ottobre 1950 e il marzo 1962 (a partire da The Voice of the Turkey e fino a T.V. or No T.V.) alla Harvey Films, che a sua volta fu acquisita dalla Classic Media nel 2001. La Classic Media è stata acquisita dalla DreamWorks Animation nel 2012 (che l'ha brevemente ribattezzata DreamWorks Classics), a sua volta acquisita dalla NBCUniversal di Comcast nel 2016 e attualmente distribuita dalla NBCUniversal Syndication Studios.

La Paramount continua a detenere i diritti sui Noveltoons realizzati dopo il marzo 1962 (a partire da Yule Laff).

Per alcuni Noveltoons precedenti all'ottobre 1950, tra cui Cilly Goose e Gabriel Churchkitten, i diritti d'autore sono stati rinnovati. Gli altri sono caduti di pubblico dominio, compresi alcuni realizzati dopo il 1950 che erano di proprietà della Harvey Comics.

Nel luglio 2021, la Paramount Home Entertainment ha pubblicato una versione restaurata di Space Kid nell'edizione Blu-ray "Paramount Presents" del film del 1982 48 ore, rendendolo il primo cartone animato della Paramount degli anni '60 a essere restaurato su qualsiasi supporto domestico.^[5]^[6]

Il 26 gennaio 2026, il "conservatore" cinematografico Thad Komorowski ha annunciato la "Famous Studios Champions Collection", la prima edizione in DVD e Blu-ray con licenza ufficiale di alcuni dei cartoni animati della Famous Studios di proprietà della Paramount. Il cofanetto contiene 18 cartoni animati, ricavati da scansioni in 4K dei materiali originali dello studio (in collaborazione con gli archivi della Paramount Pictures), ed è stato pubblicato il 21 aprile 2026 dall'etichetta Cartoon Logic di Komorowski e distribuito da ClassicFlix.
