Zasięg występowania
Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące we wschodniej Afryce (Mozambik, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Demokratyczna Republika Konga i Zambia[2][3], prawdopodobnie także Malawi)[3].

Etymologia
Elasmodactylus: gr. ελασμος elasmos ‘płyta, blacha’[4]; δακτυλος daktulos ‘palec’[5].
