Alberto Sergio Cattaneo, né le à Milan[1], est un mathématicien et physicien mathématicien italien, spécialisé en géométrie liée à la théorie quantique des champs et à la théorie des cordes. Il est professeur à l'université de Zurich[1].
Biographie
Cattaneo est élève au liceo scientifico A. Volta à Milan, puis étudie la physique à l'université de Milan, où il obtient son diplôme en 1991. En 1995, il obtient un doctorat en physique théorique dans la même université avec une thèse intitulée Teorie topologiche di tipo BF ed invarianti dei nodi (Théories BF topologiques et invariants de nœuds) dirigée par Maurizio Martellini[2].
Cattaneo effectue un postdoctorat de 1995 à 1997 à l'université Harvard (avec Arthur Jaffe) et un autre de 1997 à 1998 à l'université de Milan (avec Paolo Cotta-Ramusino). En 1998, il rejoint le département de mathématiques de l'université de Zurich en tant que maître de conférences, où il devient professeur titulaire en 2003[1].
En 2006, Cattaneo est conférencier invité au Congrès international des mathématiciens de Madrid (communication « From topological field theory to deformation quantization and reduction »)[3]. Cattaneo est élu membre de l'American Mathematical Society en 2013[4].
Recherche
Les domaines de recherche de Cattaneo comprennent la quantification par déformation, la géométrie de Poisson, la géométrie symplectique, la théorie quantique des champs topologiques et les aspects mathématiques de la quantification perturbative des théories de jauge[1].
Avec Giovanni Felder il a développé une interprétation comme intégrale de chemin de la quantification de déformation des variétés de Poisson (notion introduite en 2003 par Maxime Kontsevitch)[3], ainsi qu'une description du groupoïde symplectique intégrant une variété de Poisson comme un quotient symplectique de dimension infinie[4].
