Biografia

Lytton iniziò a suonare la batteria all'età di 16 anni. Alla fine degli anni '60 suonava jazz a Londra mentre prendeva lezioni di tabla da P.R. Desai. Nel 1969 iniziò a sperimentare la musica improvvisata, lavorando in duo con il sassofonista Evan Parker. Dopo l'aggiunta del bassista Barry Guy, l'ensemble divenne l'Evan Parker Trio. Lui e Parker hanno continuato a lavorare insieme fino agli anni 2000; le pubblicazioni più recenti includono album in trio con Marilyn Crispell nel 1996 (Natives and Aliens) e nel 1999 (After Appleby). Nel 2004 ha suonato con Roscoe Mitchell.

Membro fondatore del London Musicians Collective, Lytton ha lavorato intensamente sulla scena dell'improvvisazione libera londinese negli anni ‘70 e ha aiutato Paul Lovens nella fondazione della Aachen Musicians’ Cooperative nel 1976.

Lytton ha fatto tournée in Nord America e in Giappone sia da solista che con gruppi di improvvisazione. Nel 1999 ha fatto tournée con Ken Vandermark e Kent Kessler e ha registrato con Vandermark English Suites. Lytton ha anche collaborato con Jeffrey Morgan (sassofono contralto e tenore), con cui ha registrato il CD Terra Incognita Live in Cologne, Germany.

Ha suonato anche nell'album pionieristico di musica pop elettronica dei White Noise An Electric Storm nel 1969.
