Psychrobacter Juni & Heym, 1986 è un genere di batteri appartenenti alla famiglia Moraxellaceae e alla classe Gammaproteobacteria.[1][2][3][4]
Descrizione
Si tratta di batteri Gram-negativi, osmotolleranti, ossidasi-positivi, psicrofili o psicrotolleranti, aerobici.[1][2][3][4] La forma è tipicamente a cocchi o coccobacilli.[5]
Habitat
Questo genere di batteri è in grado di crescere a temperature comprese tra -10 e 42 °C.[6] Psychrobacter si trova in un'ampia gamma di habitat salini umidi e freddi,[6][7] ma si trova anche in habitat caldi e leggermente salini.[4][8]
Patologia
Alcuni di questi batteri sono stati isolati dagli esseri umani e possono causare infezioni come endocarditi e peritoniti[9], possono essere patogeni opportunisti in meningiti, batteriemie, infezioni dermatologiche e oculari[10]. Inoltre possono provocare patologie nei bovini e nei cani.[10]
Il lipopolisaccaride ipoacilato (LPS) isolato da Psychrobacter cryohalolentis e Psychrobacter arcticus induce una risposta infiammatoria moderata mediata da TLR4 nei macrofagi e tale bioattività dell'LPS può provocare, potenzialmente, un'inefficace clearance batterica locale e sistemica nei pazienti.[11]
Tassonomia
La prima specie (Psychrobacter immobilis) è stata descritta da Juni e Heym.[12] Rudi Rossau ha scoperto attraverso l'analisi dell'ibridazione DNA-rRNA che Psychrobacter appartiene alle Moraxellaceae.[13]
