Pheucticus – rodzaj ptaków z rodziny kardynałów (Cardinalidae).
Rozmieszczenie geograficzne
Morfologia
Długość ciała 18–24 cm, masa ciała 34–77,6 g[6].
Systematyka
Rodzaj zdefiniował w 1850 roku niemiecki zoolog Ludwig Reichenbach w publikacji własnego autorstwa zatytułowanej Avium systema naturale. Naturalny system ptaków zawierający sto tablic z przeważnie oryginalnymi ilustracjami prawie dwunastu setek typowych form odkrytych do tej pory. Prekursor ikonografii gatunków ptaków ze wszystkich części świata[2]. Gatunkiem typowym jest (późniejsze oznaczenie)[7] łuszcz kapturowy (P. aureoventris).
Etymologia
- Pheucticus: gr. φευκτικος pheuktikos ‘nieśmiały, skłonny do unikania’, od φευγ pheugō ‘uciekać’[8].
- Habia: guar. Habia ‘różne gatunki drozdów, zięb i tanagr’, skrót od haā-piy-har ‘ten, kto dużo się modli’ (nawiązanie do nieustannego śpiewu)[9]. Gatunek typowy (późniejsze oznaczenie)[10] Loxia ludoviciana Linnaeus, 1766.
- Hedymeles: gr. ἡδυμελης hēdumelēs ‘o słodkim śpiewie’, od ἡδυς hēdus ‘słodki’; μελωδεω melōdeō ‘śpiewać’[11].
- Zamelodia: gr. ζα- za- ‘bardzo’; μελωδος melōdos ‘melodyjny’, od μελωδεω melōdeō ‘śpiewać’[12].
Podział systematyczny
Do rodzaju należą następujące gatunki[13]:
- Pheucticus chrysopeplus (Vigors, 1832) – łuszcz żółty
- Pheucticus tibialis Lawrence, 1867 – łuszcz czarnogoleniowy
- Pheucticus chrysogaster (Lesson, 1832) – łuszcz żółtobrzuchy
- Pheucticus aureoventris (d’Orbigny & Lafresnaye, 1838) – łuszcz kapturowy
- Pheucticus ludovicianus (Linnaeus, 1766) – łuszcz strojny
- Pheucticus melanocephalus (Swainson, 1827) – łuszcz czarnogłowy
